The Borderland State is a mind-crunching film about dreams, love, and taking on the world.

‘The Borderland State’ is a dark drama / comedy about sleep-addicted genius Nick, who falls for nightmare-troubled Genevieve. Trying to win her over, he invents a procedure which eliminates the need to sleep. They both undergo the process and shy Nick is forced to front up to the waking life he has neglected for so long, including the broken relationships with his friends and relatives. The already difficult social challenge becomes even harder when the procedure begins to go awry, making Nick and Genevieve dream over the top of reality. Nick is pushed out of his comfort zone as he begins to take charge of his life – realising that it’s not Genevieve he fell in love with, but the experience of his waking life.

The film is being shot in the scenic metropolis of Melbourne city. At the moment the film is in an early pre-production stage and we have just finished filming a trailer for the film which we hope to have finished by February. The hope is that this will show everyone what they’re dealing with and if we’re lucky – get investors and funding bodies to part with their cash so that the full film may see the light of day.

The road to feature film completion however, is a long one and we’re hoping that the journey is going to be just as interesting as the film itself. To that end this blog right here was created and is a culmination of thoughts from the crew as production gears up and on. So far contributors include Director / Writer David Collins and Producer / Production Designer Kate McIntyre. More crew members will be chiming in with their thoughts as production trundles on.
